Curator activity

David Bartoň

While in charge of the Municipal Gallery in Telč between 2005 – 2010, I organised around thirty exhibitions and prepared fourteen smaller catalogues for various artists – Oskar Kokoschka, Jindřich Prucha, Bohuslav Reynek, Daniel Reynek, Jiří John, Karel Valter, Dagmar Hochová, Václav Rožánek, Oldřich Smutný, Ladislav Novák, Aleš Lamr, Libor Krejcar, Eva Prokopcová and others. At this time I had much valued support from the art historian Jaromír Zemina as well as from the graphic studio eF from České Budějovice.

Since 2009 I have organised smaller exhibitions in Mini gallery Trifoil in Jihlava (approximately fifty so far). As a curator I regularly organise exhibitions of my favourite authors in other towns and galleries. The most significant exhibition I prepared was in 2015, which was a retrospective of Oldřich Smutný at Museum Kampa in Prague under Meda Mládková.

I also maintain Václav Rožánek’s and Oldřich Smutný’s heritage. I am frequently approached by the public with queries regarding authenticity and value of this heritage and of the other art I exhibit.
